24-Hour Urine Collection

  1. Patient should maintain usual liquid intake unless otherwise instructed by the physician. No alcoholic beverages should be consumed through the collection period.

  2. The first morning void should be discarded. Note the time.

  3. The next void should be collected and placed in the container as soon as possible.

  4. The container should be refrigerated or kept on ice throughout the collection period.

  5. All subsequent voids should be added to the container, as they are collected.

  6. The final collection should be the first morning void of the following day (at the end of the 24 hours). Note the time.

  7. The specimen should be mixed well after each addition of urine.

  8.  Care should be taken when adding urine to a container that contains an acid preservative. The urine should be collected in another clean container and carefully decanted into the acid container. Urinating directly into the container could result in a splash of acid preservative.

  9.  Return the container to the physician/laboratory/patient service center the same day the collection ends. Continue to refrigerate the bottle until you transport it back to the physician/laboratory/patient service center.

Clean Catch Urine

  1.  If you are menstruating, wear a tampon. 

  2. Wash your hands thoroughly. 

  3. Unwrap sterile container, remove lid and set it top side down on a dry surface. 

  4. Use the antibacterial disposable cloth and clean front to back. 

  5. Holding the labia apart with one hand and sterile container in the other, urinate a small amount in the toilet first, then collect urine in the cup. Finish urinating in the toilet (midstream collection). 

  6. Be careful not to touch the inside of the container, replace the lid. 

  1.  Wash your hands thoroughly. 

  2. Unwrap sterile container, remove lid and set it top side down on a dry surface. 

  3. Expose and thoroughly clean the glans with the antibacterial disposable cloth. 

  4. With the foreskin retracted, urinate a small amount in the toilet first, then collect urine in the cup. Finish urinating in the toilet (midstream collection). 

  5. Be careful not to touch the inside of the container, replace the lid. 

Place specimen in designated area.

Instrucciones Para Coleccionar Orine No Contaminada 

  1. Si usted está menstruando, póngase un tampón. 

  2. Lávese bien las manos. 

  3. Desenvuelva el contenedor estéril, remueva la tapa y colóquelo boca abajo sobre una superficie seca. 

  4. Use el paño desechable antibacteriano y limpie de frente hacia atrás. 

  5. Manteniendo los labios mayores separado con una mano y el recipiente estéril en la otra, primero orine una pequeña cantidad en el inodoro, y luego coleccione la orina en el contenedor estéril. Termine de orinar en el inodoro (coleccione el orine mitad de fuente). 

  6. Tenga cuidado de no tocar el interior del contenedor, vuelva a colocar la tapa en el contenedor. 

  1. Lávese bien las manos. 

  2. Desenvuelva el vaso estéril, remueva la tapa y colóquelo boca abajo sobre una superficie seca. 

  3. Exponga y limpie completamente el glande con el paño desechable antibacteriano. 

  4. Con el prepucio retraído, primero orine una pequeña cantidad en el bacín, y luego coleccione la orina en el vaso estéril. Termine de orinar en el bacín (coleccione el orine mitad de fuente). 

  5. Tenga cuidado de no tocar el interior del vaso, vuelva a colocar la tapa en el vaso. 

Coloque la muestra en el área designada.
